Let me tell you about craftlingua.app. It’s my second or third app that I’ve taken across the finish line, but it was my very first idea — and one I can say I’m very proud of. It’s an original idea I had since I was little. I was always jealous of authors like Tolkien and whoever came up with the Klingon language — their ability to write an entire fictional language from scratch that actually had rules and made sense and that characters could follow.

I just knew that it would take an incredible brain or an incredibly studied professor to invent such a language. What I learned is that with the tools available to me, I could create a web app that did just that. So I went and built one, and before I even realized it, I became part of a community of people who build languages. They call themselves conlangers, and there’s a whole conlang community that I didn’t know anything about. I was kind of stepping into their territory without even realizing it. But I hope they like my product, because I bring something really unique to the table.

What Craftlingua.app Can Do

I’ve got a fully functioning language creation app that allows you to save and edit and work on your language across different “rooms,” per se.

One of the rooms is a Scriptorium where you can visualize your language written out as text — kind of like if you’re designing a logo, creating a book title under a new language, or just world-building. You can see the text in your language translated out there. You can also hear it spoken aloud to you.

There’s an Auditorium where you can hear your language spoken by different voices from different regions. That’s really unique because if you make a Klingon-style language and you want it to sound harsh and guttural, you need to pick the right accent or vocal register — and my app allows you to do exactly that.

You can also share and comment on other people’s languages if you want. There’s a whole social media aspect called the Agora room.

Subscriber Tiers

There are different subscriber tiers available:

  • For $9 a month, you can be a Linguist tier, which unlocks certain functionality.
  • For $19 a month, you get the full Archmage tier and access to all functions on the app.

One of the top-tier features is a Cipher Creator tool, so you can create codes and ciphers with your language — or whatever language you want.

Where It’s Going

Craftlingua.app was built alongside a couple of other things I’m working on, one of which is Punch Skater, a cyber/skater punk game. I have two websites under that umbrella: sk8rpunk.com and, within that intellectual property, the trading collectible card game at punchskater.com.

Someday I’d like to connect these things to craftlingua.app and expand the shared mythology my brother and I have been building. That’s what I’m working on these days. Thanks for reading. —BRB SCOTTY
